Laing P-04 Stabilizer Review

Hey guys, so I’m starting my line of product reviews as I get free time and such. First cool thing I recently got though was the Laing P-04 Stabilizer. This product is a very close equivalent of the Glidecam HD 2000 but at about half the cost. Based on reviews of several people on the popular previous model the Laing P-03, I decided I would go for the updated model and see what it has to offer. Now i haven’t had a lot of experience with stabilizers so what I have shot so far isn’t perfect by any means, but in comparison to hand-held it’s an AMAZING improvement. Worth the $300 or so if you are looking for a good product.

Below is some test footage i shot as soon as i got it balanced. Since then I have improved it significantly and gotten a little bit more practice in, but it is good enough to show what is possible.

The AFM Media Missions Project Donation Information

As many of you are aware, I am serving as a student missionary with AFM (Adventist Frontier Missions) as a Videographer/Photographer as well as the editor for content that is planned to be aired on 3ABN. The content will be shot in West Africa by myself with the assistance of the missionaries already stationed over the course of about 2 months, and will tell the stories of what God is doing in those areas! What you may not know, however, is that this isn’t free. Yes yes I know, its really a shame that you cant get something for nothing in modern society, but the way the US writes the laws, I actually cant do anything without being paid, and I cant be paid, much less travel, without enough money being raised. This is where you come in!

The good news is I only have to raise 1/3rd of the total cost. The rest is being supplied by other means, but that is still $6,800 left over. Several of you have already been generous enough to lower this amount by a fair amount, but there is still a lot left over. And unless this is raised in the next few weeks, well… It wouldn’t be the happiest blog update I ever wrote.

So how can you help? Its so easy! In the society we live in we want everything to be available to us immediately, including payment and donation options. This is possible!
All you have to do is:

You will be able to enter the information in the window that pops up. Make sure you add “Give to Alexander Swensen”  or “For Videographer” in the comments section, and the money will be supplied directly to this project! You will also receive a great big Thank you by name in a blog post once all the money is raised. (if you do not wish to have your name mentioned please note as such by sending me an email and that will be taken care of as well. 🙂 )

If you have any other questions please feel free to post them below. Remember this project cant happen without you!
God Bless,

Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 FTW Update

Alright guys and gals, after about 3 weeks longer than I promised I finally found the time to write up a short update on that new graphics card I bought. I must say it really does make a difference. While the plugins that I use on a regular basis don’t provide GPU acceleration support (sadly) i have found that the improvement vs not having the GPU is obvious. After editing the CUDA Supported Cards file in my premiere installation, the CUDA support in premiere worked perfectly and utilized the card. All video effects bundled with adobe no longer need to be rendered when applied to a clip. This means that those of you who don’t want to wait around for the render to take place don’t have to.  On top of that, when editing on dual monitors (like I do) the performance increase is amazing. Being able to playback full resolution clips on two screens is a life saver. I cant recommend this upgrade enough.
(oh and I should mention that my video games look amazing now too, which is always a plus. )

As I see more changes i will post updates, but for now this is all I have time for. If you have any specific questions post them below and I will do my best answer them!
